The original Chi amplifier was based around a single-channel version of the Omega but with a pair of 6V6s in the output section, producing around 15 watts. During the re-launch talks, the decision was made to create a higher-powered version and make it a two-channel amp. The idea was that it wouldn’t be just a lower-powered Omega. There were discussions back and forth about what Alex’s business partner thought the amp should be. After much deliberation, the Chi ended up becoming a lower-powered version of the Omega. Instead of using 6V6s this time, as they wanted more power but not the full 50 watts that the Omega was putting out, the amp is running a pair of 6L6 tubes in a cathode bias configuration. The final output wattage came in around 25-30 watts. The bigger bottles helped keep the “big-ness” of the Omega but in a smaller and lighter package.
The amp is built on a high-quality designed PCB to help get the amp into a lower price range than the Omega. It is built both as a head and a 1×12 combo.
